Breakeven

Accessibility

Breakeven should work for everyone.

This statement covers this website (breakeven.live) and the Breakeven app (app.breakeven.live).

We want everyone who invests to be able to see what their trades really cost, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, magnification, voice control or a slow connection.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Breakeven is partially conformant: most of it meets the standard, and the gaps we know about are listed below. We haven't had an independent audit yet; we plan one before leaving early access.

What we do

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline wherever you are.
  • Pages use real headings, landmarks and labels, so screen readers can move around them.
  • Colours are chosen to meet AA contrast in both light and dark mode, and you can pick either or follow your device.
  • Gain and loss aren't shown by colour alone: figures carry a plus or minus sign and a label.
  • Results from the calculators are announced as they change.
  • Animations stop if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Pages reflow on screens down to 320px wide and zoom to 200% without losing content.
  • We write in plain language and explain fees in words, not just numbers.

What isn't there yet

  • Charts. In the app, charts such as "Profit after fees at any sell price" have the key figures next to them as text, but the charts themselves can't yet be explored point by point with a screen reader.
  • Illustrations. Product pictures on this site are decorative and hidden from screen readers; the same information is in the text around them.
  • Statement upload. Reading your IC Wealth statement depends on the PDF IC provides. If the PDF can't be read, you can enter trades by hand instead.
  • Email. Alert emails are designed to read well as plain text, but we haven't tested them in every email app with a screen reader.
  • Security check. Sign-up may show a Cloudflare Turnstile check. It usually passes without any action; if it doesn't, contact us and we'll help.

Tell us about a problem

If something on Breakeven is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, email support@breakeven.live. Say which page you were on and what happened. We treat accessibility problems as bugs to fix.

How we test

We check pages with automated browser tests, by keyboard, and at phone sizes in light and dark mode when we change them. Screen-reader testing is part of the audit we plan before leaving early access.
