Breakeven

Questions and answers

Short, plain answers about fees, break-even and how Breakeven works.

What is a break-even price?

Your break-even price is the lowest price you can sell a holding at and get back everything you paid, after the fees on the buy and the fees on the sale. Because selling has fees too, it's higher than the price you paid. For example, 125 MTN Ghana shares bought at GHS 6.50 through IC Securities break even at GHS 6.80.

Why isn't a 20% price rise a 20% profit?

Fees come off when you buy and again when you sell, and both have to be covered before any profit is yours. On 125 MTN Ghana shares bought at GHS 6.50, a 20% rise to GHS 7.80 leaves a 14.7% profit after fees. A true 20% profit needs GHS 8.16, a 25.5% rise.

How are fees calculated on the GSE with IC Securities?

Each trade pays four statutory levies (CSD 0.15%, SEC 0.15%, GSE 0.35%, market development 0.05%) plus brokerage. The total rate falls with the size of the trade: 2.50% up to GHS 500, 2.25% up to GHS 5,000, 2.00% up to GHS 10,000 and 1.75% above that. Each charge is rounded to the pesewa separately.

Is Breakeven investment advice?

No. Breakeven is a calculator and tracking tool. It shows facts about your own holdings after fees and alerts you at levels you choose. It doesn't recommend buying, selling or holding anything.

Does Breakeven trade for me or connect to my brokerage account?

No. Breakeven never places trades, never connects to your brokerage account and never holds your money. It only uses the statement you upload or the trades you enter.

Which brokers and markets does Breakeven support?

We're starting with IC Securities on the Ghana Stock Exchange, including statements from its IC Wealth app. Other GSE brokers are next, then more markets. Tell us which broker you use at support@breakeven.live and it helps us decide where to go next.

How do I add my holdings?

Get your account statement from the IC Wealth app (the last 3 months works best) and upload the PDF to Breakeven. Tick the stocks to track and every trade comes in with its exact charges. You can also enter trades by hand.

Is my statement stored?

No. Breakeven reads the figures in memory and the file is never saved, not even in backups. Your name, address and account number aren't stored, and we never sell your data. See breakeven.live/security for the details.

Will my data be sold, shared or made public?

No. Your holdings are private to your account and never published. We don't sell or share your data, show ads or use tracking cookies, and we never give your information to brokers. Only our support team can open your account, to help you, and every time they do it's logged.

How much does Breakeven cost?

Free tracks one stock with every trade in it. Starter (five holdings, ten alerts, statement uploads any time) is free when two friends you invite start tracking. Pro and Premium are coming soon.

How do price alerts work?

You choose a level after fees, such as break-even or a 20% profit. Breakeven checks after every market close and emails you once when the close reaches it.

How do referrals work?

Share your invite link. Each friend who confirms their email and starts tracking earns you 50 points, and 100 points unlock a month of Starter.

Can I delete my account?

Yes, in Settings. Your account closes straight away and is erased for good after 30 days (backups roll over within 15 days after that); signing in before then restores it.
