This explains what Breakeven collects, why, and how long we keep it. We collect as little as the service needs, and we don't sell your data or show you ads.

What we collect

  • Your account: email address, an optional name, and your password stored only as a secure one-way hash.
  • Your holdings: the trades, opening balances, dividends and alerts you add or import.
  • Usage needed to run the service: when you last signed in, and IP addresses briefly held to stop abuse such as password guessing.
  • Signed-in devices: for each device you sign in on, its browser and system (such as Chrome on Android), an approximate city and country from your connection, and when it signed in and was last used. You can see and sign out these devices in Settings. We don't keep your IP address for this.

Account statements

When you upload a statement, we read it in memory to get the figures and then discard the file. It is never written to disk, to our database or to our backups. We don't store the PDF, your name, your address or your account number. To stop the free plan being claimed many times for the same brokerage account, we keep a one-way keyed fingerprint of the account number, which can't be turned back into the number.

Why we use it

  • To calculate your break-even, targets and fees, and to show you your holdings.
  • To send the emails you ask for: confirmations, password resets and price alerts.
  • To keep accounts secure and the service fair, including plan limits and referral rewards.
  • To help you when you contact us. Our support team can see your account to fix problems, and every time they open it is logged.

Who processes it for us

  • Hosting: our servers and database, in the European Union.
  • Email delivery: a transactional email provider that sends our emails.
  • Cloudflare: delivers the website and runs a bot check on sign-up and sign-in.

They only process data to provide these services to us.

How long we keep it

  • Your data, for as long as you have an account.
  • IP addresses used to stop abuse: usually a day.
  • Signed-in devices: while the device is signed in (up to 30 days), then 30 days more.
  • If you delete your account, it's closed straight away and erased after 30 days, unless you sign in to restore it. Our nightly backups are kept for 14 days, so erased data leaves them within 15 days after that. Anonymous fingerprints used to limit free benefits are kept.
