Break-even with dividends

Dividends you've received lower the price you need to get your money back. Breakeven shows both.

Updated 19 October 2026. 1 min read.

Short answer

Dividends you've received, after withholding tax, lower the price you need to sell at to get your money back. Breakeven shows both break-evens side by side.

A dividend is money back from your holding. Counting it, you need a lower sale price to come out even. Breakeven shows two break-evens side by side: the price on its own, and the price after the dividends you've received, net of withholding tax.

Which dividends count

You're entitled to a dividend if you held the shares at the end of the day before the ex-dividend date. Paid dividends count by default. Declared ones that haven't been paid yet can be included too, labelled as expected.

Withholding tax

Dividends in Ghana are paid after withholding tax. When you record one, enter the rate on your dividend advice; Breakeven works out the tax and the amount you received, or you can enter the amount received directly.

Selling before the ex-date

If a dividend has been declared and you sell before the ex-dividend date, you won't receive it. Breakeven shows a notice when a holding has an upcoming ex-date.
